How we calculate gold rates
Every price on this site is a live market quote for gold, converted to the right currency, weight and purity with fixed published factors. Nothing is typed in by hand. This page lists the data sources, constants and adjustments, and what our figures do not include.
Data source
Live prices are displayed through embedded TradingView widgets. Quotes come from TradingView's data partners; we do not alter them beyond the arithmetic described here. The main symbols are:
| Symbol | What it is | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| OANDA:XAUUSD | Spot gold, US dollars per troy ounce | Headline spot price; base for cross rates |
| FX_IDC:XAUUSDG | Gold, US dollars per gram | All US dollar per-gram rows |
| FX_IDC:XAUINRG | Gold, Indian rupees per gram | All Indian rates |
| FX_IDC:XAUEURG, XAUMYRG, XAUTRYG, XAUTHBG, XAUIDRG | Gold per gram in EUR, MYR, TRY, THB, IDR | Those currencies directly |
| FX_IDC:XAUGBP, XAUCAD, XAUAUD, XAUSGD, XAUZAR, XAUJPY, XAUCNY, XAUCHF, XAUNZD, XAUNPR; OANDA:XAUHKD | Gold per troy ounce in each currency | Divided by 31.1034768 for per-gram figures |
| OANDA:XAUUSD × FX_IDC:USD<ccy> | Cross rate | Currencies without a direct gold pair: PKR, AED, SAR, QAR, KWD, OMR, BHD, BDT, LKR, VND, PHP, EGP, NGN, KES |
For example, 1 gram of 24K gold in Pakistani rupees = XAUUSD × USD/PKR ÷ 31.1034768.

Karat factors

|---|---|---|
| 24K | 1.000 | Pure gold (999/999.9 treated as 1) |

A rate for a given weight and karat = price of 1 g of pure gold × grams × karat factor. Thai rates use 15.244 g × 0.965.
India: import duty
Indian rates include India's 6% customs duty on gold (5% basic customs duty plus 1% Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess), so the indicative Indian rate = FX_IDC:XAUINRG × 1.06 × grams × karat factor. This approximates the landed cost that jewellers price from. It is shown before 3% GST and making charges. Where a page shows "international parity" in rupees, the duty is not included.
What our figures do not include
- Local dealer, bank or jeweller premiums and discounts, and buy-back deductions.
- VAT, GST or sales tax.
- Import duty outside India.
- Making charges, wastage, stone charges and hallmarking fees.
- Independently set local market rates (for example Pakistan's sarafa association rates, Nepal's association rates or Vietnam's SJC bar prices), which can sit well above international parity. Pages for those markets explain the gap.
Update frequency
Prices update live while the gold and currency markets are open, generally from Sunday evening to Friday evening New York time with short daily breaks. Outside those hours the widgets show the last available quote. Widgets load after your first interaction with a page, so the price you see is fetched at that moment.
Worked check
Suppose spot gold is US$4,150 per ounce and USD/PKR is 281 (both illustrative). Then 1 g of 24K in PKR = 4,150 × 281 ÷ 31.1034768 = PKR 37,492.59, and 1 tola of 22K = 37,492.59 × 11.6638038 × 0.916 = PKR 400,573 (rounded).
