1 Gram Gold Rate Today
One gram of 24K gold is worth the spot ounce price divided by 31.1035, shown live in US dollars in the first table along with 22K, 18K and 14K. The second table gives 1 gram of 24K gold in rupees, dirhams, riyals and other currencies. A 1-gram coin from a shop costs more than these figures because of minting, tax and dealer margin.

International spot equivalents for pure (24K) gold, with no dealer premium, tax or making charge. Karat rows = 24K price × purity. How we calculate
The math behind 1 gram
Suppose spot gold is $4,150 per troy ounce. One gram of pure gold is 4,150 ÷ 31.1035 = $133.43. Lower karats contain less gold per gram of metal:
| 1 gram of | Gold content | Illustrative value |
|---|---|---|
| 24K | 99.9% | $133.43 |
| 22K | 91.6% | $122.22 |
| 18K | 75.0% | $100.07 |
| 14K | 58.5% | $78.05 |
Converting to another currency is one more multiplication. If one US dollar buys ₹94.43, one gram of 24K gold is 133.43 × 94.43 ≈ ₹12,600 at international parity. Both figures are illustrative; the live table does the conversion with current rates.

What a 1-gram gold coin actually costs
One-gram coins and bars are the cheapest way into physical gold, and they are popular gifts at Dhanteras, Akshaya Tritiya, Eid and weddings. But the smaller the piece, the larger the mark-up per gram. Making a 1 g coin takes almost the same minting, assaying and packaging work as a 10 g coin, and that cost is spread over a tenth of the gold.
A worked example for an Indian buyer, using an illustrative international rate of ₹12,600 per gram:
| Item | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| International gold value | 1 g × ₹12,600 | ₹12,600 |
| Import duty | 6% | ₹756 |
| Coin making / dealer premium | assumed ₹400 | ₹400 |
| GST | 3% of ₹13,756 | ₹412.68 |
| Price paid | ₹14,168.68 |
That is about 12.4% above the international melt value. When you sell, a jeweller or buyer will typically pay close to the day's rate for the gold content minus a deduction, not the price you paid, so the premium is largely lost. Buying larger coins or bars, or a gold ETF or digital gold, cuts the premium per gram. Indian readers can check city rates on the India gold rate page and the tax treatment in GST on gold.
How much 1 gram moves in a day
Because a gram is a small fraction of an ounce, daily changes look modest per gram. Every $10 change in the ounce price moves 1 gram of 24K gold by 10 ÷ 31.1035 = $0.32. A 1% day with gold near an illustrative $4,150 is a $41.50 move per ounce, or $1.33 per gram of 24K and $1.22 per gram of 22K. In rupees at an illustrative ₹13,356 per gram including duty, the same 1% day is about ₹134 per gram, or ₹1,336 per 10 grams. Keep this in mind when headlines describe a "big jump" in the per-gram rate.
1 gram of 22K vs 24K
Coins and bars are usually 24K (999 or 999.9 fine). Jewellery in India and the Gulf is usually 22K (916). One gram of 22K jewellery contains 0.916 g of gold, so its gold value is 8.4% below one gram of 24K, before making charges. When comparing a 1 g coin with a 1 g pendant, compare the fine gold content, then the premium. The karat purity calculator converts between purities.
Where the 1-gram rate is quoted locally
- India: jewellers publish 22K and 24K rates per gram, often alongside 8 g and 10 g.
- UAE and Saudi Arabia: retail boards show 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K per gram in dirhams or riyals.
- Pakistan and Nepal: the tola is the main unit, with per-10-gram rates alongside; see gold price per tola.
- US, UK, Canada: bullion is quoted per ounce, but small bars are sold in 1 g, 2.5 g and 5 g sizes.
